Going into this weekend, I told myself I was going to watch a scary movie. Personally, I dont mind scary movies but ever since I watched Smile last year, I haven't been able to watch another scary movie. So this weekend, I picked a scary movie that Mr. H has recommended so much: Scream. I had no clue what I was getting into when I started watching this movie. Personally, I thought it was just another slasher film with a bunch of hot people and I was right. This film is not necessarily bad but kind of predictable. Like the twist ending, I kinda guessed because those were the only two characters who talked about death and killing in such a normal that it had to be them. I think though this was all done on purpose. I think the point of this movie was to show that scary movies are predicable. Like the entire movie they talk about how the girl who is going to die always run upstairs or that the person who is about to be murdered does not realize. I think this movie just does an overall great job of making fun of the basic murder movies.
I think the acting was actually really good. I did not think that this movie would have great acting because it was like a teenage slasher and they usually have horrible acting. The way the scooby doo guy and the other killer acted the entire time gave the movie its underlying creepy and scariness. I also think that the movie itself was not necessarily that scary but the music and the acting kind of carried. I mean there were moments were I did not think it was scary then I would turn up the volume and here the music and it automatically got scarier. Overall, I think this film is good but no way it is great. P.S. It was kind of upsetting that Drew Barrymore was literally only in this movie for like 5 seconds

La Haine is about the projects of Paris during riots of Paris of 1990's. This movie specifically focus on three friends who learn to navigate around poverty in Paris as non-white people. Each friend represents three different ways of dealing with life in the projects and ends with the message of that one can not escape that of death when in the projects. Overall, I would say this film was truly well done. From the acting, video work, editing, and just the overall feel made this film stick. Even though it was in black and white and it was in french it did not stop me as an english speaker from understanding the film. My favorite parts of the movie is where the director would go on small tangents for minutes on in from Vinz's dreams to the break dancing scene that distracted the viewer from the overall depressing feeling of the movie. My favorite part that was a tangent was the old man telling Vinz and Hubert about the train. It was out of no where and had to do with the story but it made you forget about the depressing situation you are in. The main message of what life is like in the projects however was always evident. From the the brutality of the police which reminds me a lot of the current American situation to the little details like the DJ. Each different plot point from the gun that Vinz has allows the plot to stand out from the average movie that try's to replicate life in the projects. I think this film does a great job with showing each character and how there life in the projects sucks and you cant except from the ultimate outcome death. The ending were Hubert and Vinz die explains that fully. This ending basically came out of no where for me because I thought it would have been a happier ending. But this just shows reality in it fullest and also shows the brutality of the police. This film although kind of depressing is really good. I think it even might take a place on my top 5. I love the overall feel of the movie and I also loved the acting of each character. There was also nothing I really hated about this movie which is the reason why I think it might be in my top 5. 9.1When I saw this movie was out to rent I jumped at the opportunity to rent it. I would say I am one of the biggest Mission Impossible fans and it is one of my favorite film franchises. When I heard this movie was one of the best of the franchise I was a little weary. But I kind of have to agree. This movies plot in my opinion is top tier when it comes to some of the other plots which get kind of ridiculous. The director utilizes action in every sense with every scene not being boring in any way. I thought this film did a really good job of setting up the finale of the series. However, I would say the back story and theme of death of girls who come close to Ethan hunt. It come of makes him look like a womanizer while also throwing out the idea of Ethan's wife who is very much still alive. I did like the addition of Haley Atwell who brought a sort of different perspective when it comes to characters in the mission impossible world. It also shows Ethans devotion to his team and showing that he will die trying to save his team and saving the world. I also liked them killing off Ilsa Faust who in my opinion always got in the way of Ethan Hunt rather than actually trying to help him. That kind of character struggle I did not enjoy in every single story. One problem I did have with the film is how "over powered" the antagonist is when in reality he is just some random guy. Like when he kills ilsa faust, one of the best assassins in the world with a dagger while she has a sword. He also like kills everyone who he comes in contact with with a random knife. Like I know some action is ridiculous but like him just killing everyone is actually crazy. But his redeeming factor is the acting where he is able to bring a sort of mystery to the movie where you don't know his motives or the AI's motives. This movie was able to set up a great second movie were it will be a race to the submarine. I am very much looking forward to the second movie because even if it is a fraction of this movie it will still be pretty good. 8.2/10 This movie has been on my "What to Watch List". I heard it was a very good movie and I also really like Ewan Mcgregor and thought he would be perfect for the cricket character in the movie ( I know it is Jimmie Cricket but I think for lisccning reasons I'm pretty sure he cant be called that). So when I sat down to watch the movie I excepted the same Pinocchio movie that I had always seen just a little darker. An oh boy was I surprised. This story was a completely refreshing take on a classic story. The setting was a great take on the story and brought a lot more importance to the actual setting when it came to the story. The time period also added a much needed sense of purpose to each character and gave reasons why each character was the way they were. The characters themselves gave the story a lot more depth. Like Geppetto getting drunk after the depth of his first son made the character less fantastical and more relatable. So the world building of this story was really good and made the story itself more relatable than the original disney version. The stop motion itself was also very original and pretty to look at. For example, the whale looked different and brought almost showed how this movie was more realistic in the fact that it would be more dark but at the same time more fantastical because it deals with life beyond death. I would also say that this movie did get kind of two weird at times when trying to replicate the classic kid movie. Parts like the paintball war just seemed weird and stood out because it did not match the feel of the rest of the movie. I would also say this movie also tried to tackle to many different ideas like immortality and death, along with what makes someone human, and a bunch of other different ideas. It seemed to me the movie needed one central idea that it needed to tackle and along tackle other ideas with each side story. Overall, I really liked this movie and I would say I might have even liked it more than the original. I would even go as far to say that this movie is almost completely different than the original. This movie was also kind of depressing but in kind of a good way which was really refreshing. I would definitely recommend for others to watch this movie because of the beauty and new take on a classic story. 7.9/10 |
